International Appeal After Destruction of Major Printing Press in Ukraine

Faktor-Druk, the Ukrainian printing press and owner of Vivat publishing house has appealed for international financial donations following the destruction of their Kharkiv factory, killing 7, injuring 22 in bombing on 23 May. Read more.

IPA in Rabat During SIEL 2024

IPA Statement on the funding of the book sector in Slovenia

WIPO Member States Adopt New Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources, and Traditional Knowledge
WIPO member states have approved a new Treaty addressing the intersection of intellectual property (IP), genetic resources, and traditional knowledge. This agreement, concluded after 25 years of negotiation, was achieved at the Diplomatic Conference held from May 13 to 24, 2024. Read more.
Call for Nominations: 2024 ABC International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing
This award honors both a publisher and a project initiative demonstrating exceptional leadership and accomplishments in enhancing the accessibility of e-books and digital publications for individuals who are blind, have low vision, are dyslexic, or have mobility impairments affecting their ability to read printed materials. Germany's Freedom of Expression Week 2024: A Focus on Democracy
Hosted by the Börsenverein, the newly founded Freedom of Expression Foundation, and the Frankfurt Agency Alliance, the initiative emphasized the importance of freedom of expression as a cornerstone of democracy through over 90 events and actions involving 70 partners. Read more.
IPA urges Mexican government to reconsider withdrawing from OECD PISA evaluation
Further to reports in Mexico, international publishers support the Mexican Publishers Association, CANIEM, in calling on the Mexican government to reconsider withdrawing from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Read more.

IPA President Karine Pansa and Secretary General José Borghino's participation at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair was mentioned by Gulf News. The presence of IPA Vice President Gvantsa Jobava at the SIEL (Rabat) was covered by L'Opinion and MAP Express, among other local media. Her participation at the Thessaloniki International Book Fair was also mentioned by Literature.gr, Macedonia, and Thes.gr.

IPA's concern for Mexico's potential departure from PISA was covered by Publishing Perspectives. The announcement of Oleksandra Matviichuk at the IPA International Publishers Congress was covered by Publishing Perspectives. IPA's AI Webinar on Combating Copyright Infringement was covered by SNEL. IPA's advocacy for the trinity of freedoms (freedom of expression, freedom to read, and freedom to publish) to be protected was mentioned by Publishing Perspectives in an article on Germany's Freedom of Expression Week.

The 2024 IPA Prix Voltaire shortlist announcement was picked up in many publications, including Publishing Perspectives, Book Brunch, PublishNews.br, PublishNews.es, Boersenblatt, Deutschlandfunkkultur, Livres Hebdo, Edebiyathaber, Nasha Niva, Giornale della Libreria, Euradio.fm, Reformation, and Radio Europe / Poland.

Publishers' Licensing Services confirmed former IPA President Richard Charkin at keynote speaker for their conference on July 4. The Association of American Publishers announced former IPA President Youngsuk Chi's election into their board of directors. Former IPA President Bodour Al Qasimi's presence at the Thessaloniki International Book Fair was covered by Harper's Bazaar Arabia.
