Registrations open for 33rd International Publishers Congress

The International Publishers Association has confirmed the details of its forthcoming 33rd International Publishers Congress with a full two-day programme of panel discussions as well as a gala dinner and awards ceremonies. The Congress will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia from 10-12 November under the theme Reading Matters: Embracing the Future. Read more.
IPA concerned at arrest of Thai Publisher
Mr. Thanapol Eawsakul, the editor-in-chief of Same Sky Books (Fah Diew Kan) was arrested on 30th June 2022. The Prix Voltaire shortlisted publisher was subsequently released on bail but IPA remains concerned about the future of the serially harassed publisher and his prospects for a fair and open trial. Read more.

Mexico: Publishers welcome Supreme Court of Justice judgement on library law
On June 22, the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice decided in favour of copyright owners, in a lawsuit over the Mexican law on libraries, which allowed libraries to lend and make available digital copies of books and other copyrighted works obtained through the obligation of legal deposit.  Read more.

Turkish-Swedish NATO compromise must not sacrifice exiled Turkish publisher
Ragıp Zarakolu appears in national news agency reports as being the subject of an extradition request in compromise between Turkey and Sweden over NATO membership. Zarakolu, the 2008 IPA Prix Voltaire laureate, has lived in exile in Sweden since 2012. Read more.

How can publisher associations tackle diversity and inclusion?

On 25 March 2022, the Publishers Association in the UK published its latest Diversity survey of the publishing workforce. Michiel Kolman, Chair of the IPA's Inclusive Publishing and Literacy Committee spoke to Dan Conway, the incoming CEO of the Publishers Association in the UK about their longstanding work in this area. Read more.
