IPA membership to reach 101 in 81 countries
At its virtual General Assembly on 21 November 2023, the IPA confirmed the results of online elections and decisions about membership applications. New IPA Executive, Membership and Freedom to Publish Committee members were announced, along with 9 new IPA member associations. Read more.

IPA at SCCR 44
The second SCCR of 2023 was a short one, just 3 days rather than the usual 5. This meant less of the diplomatic opening statements and jumping right into a packed agenda. Read more.

The Mexican Publishers vs the Federal Government
Hugo Setzer: The Mexican Publishers Association, CANIEM, recently filed a lawsuit against the Federal Government, because of the abrupt cancellation of the regulations for the selection, acquisition and distribution of textbooks for the secondary level (grades 7 to 9). Read more.

The International Publishers Association's statement of extreme concern in regard to the nationalization of textbooks in the Dominican Republic was covered in an article by Publishing Perspectives, as well as by Noticias Sin (in Spanish).

The IPA's specialized programming at the Frankfurt Book Fair was covered by Publishing Perspectives. Likewise, the IPA's sustainable development dashboard was mentioned by Publishers Weekly, covering the Frankfurt Book Fair and sustainability in publishing.

IPA President Karine Pansa's support for the Ljubljana Reading Manifesto was covered in articles by the STA, PublishNews (in Portuguese), and Delo (in Slovenian). Likewise, her words on the importance of reading and democracy at the Frankfurt Book Fair were covered in an article by Frankfurter Rundschau (in German). Her attendance at the International Book Fair in Istanbul was covered in an article by Dünya (in Turkish).

IPA Secretary-General José Borghino's words on the Israel-Hamas conflict were covered by The Bookseller and Publishers Weekly, alongside words shared by members of the publishing industry.

Former IPA President Richard Charkin shared his reflections on his 51st Frankfurt Book Fair in Publishing Perspectives.

The IPA's involvement with the UNESCO World Book Capital was mentioned by UNESCO, in commemoration of Accra becoming the 2023 World Book Capital. The IPA's collaboration with the Italian Publishers Association on the BOP – Bologna Prize Best Children's Publishers of the Year was mentioned by Giornale della Libreria (in Italian). The IPA's work in sustainability was mentioned in an article by PublishNews (in Portuguese). The IPA's growth to 81 countries and 101 Member Associations was covered by Publishing Perspectives, as well as PublishNews (in Spanish).

IPA President Karine Pansa's attendance at the Istanbul Book Fair was covered by Hurriyet Daily News, Oksijen (in Turkish), and Bianet (in Turkish). Her interviews held during her attendance at the book fair were covered by Cumhuriyet (in Turkish) and Muhalif (in Turkish).

Pansa also attended the Guadalajara Book Fair, delivering the keynote speech and covered by Publishing Perspectives. Her attendance was also covered by Milenio, Jotdown, Cronica, and El Economista (all in Spanish).

IPA Vice President Gvantsa Jobava was interviewed by Publishing Perspectives during the Frankfurt Book Fair, discussing the state of freedom of expression in Georgia. Likewise, her attendance at the 2023 Sharjah Publishers Conference was also covered by Publishing Perspectives.
