IPA Congress Countdown Kicks off with Call for 1000 SDG-related Actions from Publishers
With the United Nations Under-Secretary-General of Global Communications, Melissa Fleming, to keynote at the 34th International Publishers Congress in 96 days, the International Publishers Association is calling on publishers to join its campaign: Turning the Page: 1000 Actions for a Sustainable Future.

EPF Open Meeting at Frankfurt to Address AI, EU-TDM, and Freedom to Publish
The International Publishers Association's (IPA) Educational Publishers Forum (EPF) is set to hold its annual Open Meeting at the Frankfurt Book Fair on Friday, October 18, at 9:30 am in Conclusio 1. The Meeting will look at the practical use of artificial intelligence, the EU TDM opt-out mechanism, and a detailed discussion on government interference in educational publishing. Read more.
IPA and the Freedom to Publish at Frankfurt 
Following the call for the protection of the "Trinity of Freedoms," the freedom of expression, to read, and to publish, the International Publishers Association (IPA) is set to host an Open Freedom to Publish Committee Meeting on Wednesday, 16 October from 14:30 – 16:00 in Conclusio 1+2, and a panel on the Freedom to Publish at Frankfurt Book Fair on Thursday, 17 October 15:00 – 16:00 in the Frankfurt Pavillion. Last Call! Nominations for 2024 ABC International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing
The ABC International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing has opened its nominations for 2024. This award honors both a publisher and a project initiative demonstrating exceptional leadership and accomplishments in enhancing the accessibility of e-books and digital publications for individuals who are blind, have low vision, are dyslexic, or have mobility impairments affecting their ability to read printed materials. Australian Publishers Association Releases Sustainability Survey Results
The Australian Publishers Association (APA) has published the findings of its inaugural Sustainability Survey, offering insights into the environmental practices of the publishing industry. Read more.
IPA calls for release of 2009 Prix Voltaire laureate Sihem Bensedrine by Tunisian authorities 
Following an alert from Lawyers Without Borders, the IPA is very concerned to learn of the arrest of Ms Sihem Bensedrine, who was awarded the IPA's Freedom to Publish Prize (the precursor to the Prix Voltaire) in 2009. Read more.

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, IFLA, recently organized a conference in México City, in collaboration with the National University in México, UNAM. Read more.

IPA Freedom to Publish Committee Chair Kristenn Einarsson's words of concern for the state of freedom to publish in Turkey after the blocking of Wattpad were covered by Publishing Perspectives, and the IPA's call for the unblocking of Wattpad were also covered by Publishing Perspectives and The Pinnacle Gazette.
