Registrations open for 33rd International Publishers Congress

33rd International Publishers Congress will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia from 10-12 November under the theme Reading Matters: Embracing the Future. Register now.
Russia: Court Judgement highlights book publication as grounds for liquidation of LGBT+ rights NGO
In June, the Kuibyshevsky District Court of St. Petersburg published the judgement behind its decision to liquidate Sphere, the largest LGBT+ rights NGO in Russia. The judgement clearly states that the NGO's publication of Mothers, Fathers and Kids from Dusk till Dawn was part of its decision. Read more.
US Publishers seek summary judgement against internet archive for blatant scanning and distribution of literary works on industrial scale
On 7 July, member companies of the Association of American Publishers (AAP) filed a motion for summary judgment in the copyright infringement lawsuit againt Internet Archive ("IA"), first filed on 1 June, 2020, in a New York District Court. Read more.

At the beginning of July, IPA representatives — including IPA President, Bodour Al Qasimi, Chair of the Educational Publishers Forum, Stephan de Valk, and Secretary General José Borghino — participated in a series of events scheduled in and around the 26th São Paulo Book Fair or 'Bienal'. Read more.
WIPO Assemblies - Diplomatic Conferences confirmed and Accessible Books panel promotes Marrakesh Treaty implementation
The World Intellectual Property Organization Assemblies took place in Geneva and online from 14 to 22 July. Member States brought years of negotiations on two issues closer to resolution with agreement on two Diplomatic Conferences. The Assemblies also included a side event on the Marrakesh Treaty. Read more.
APIF-DAISY Accessible Publishing Initiative
In the second half of 2022 the Africa Publishing Innovation Fund and the DAISY Consortium - a world authority on publishing for people with visual impairments and other print disabilities - are offering African publishers free expert training on the production of accessible works. Read more.
WIPO publishes Global Publishing Industry in 2020
Latest annual report gathers data from publishers associations, legal deposits, Nielsen Bookscan data, the ISBN Agency and the Web of Science. This is the 5th edition of the report and represents progress in data collection, both in terms of country coverage and data quality. Read more.

German SDG Book Club comes to life as part of national reading competition

Book recommendations dealing with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be part of the 2022/23 round of the national German book trade's reading competition. The reading competition joins the growing number of SDG Book Club initiatives around the world. Read more.

Strasburg to be UNESCO World Book Capital 2024

Following the evaluation of the World Book Capital Advisory Committee, Strasbourg, France has been named as World Book Capital for 2024. Read more.
