IPA laments the passing of Victoria Amelina, another writer lost to war
On 1 July, Victoria Amelina, Ukrainian author and war crimes documentarist, succumbed to wounds suffered during the bombing of Kramatorsk on Tuesday 27 June. Read more.

IPA President visits Seoul and Beijing International Book Fairs
IPA President, Karine Pansa, travelled to Seoul International Book Fair and Beijing International Book Fair in June 2023 where she was able to meet representative s of IPA members from Korea, Japan and China. Read more.

Charkin: IPA has managed to build an environment of respect between its members
Richard Charkin was President of the IPA in 2015-16. Recently, he published My Back Pages: An Undeniably Personal History of Publishing, 1972-2022: a book that recounts his life as a publisher. IPA Secretary General, José Borghino, asked him a few questions. Read more.
Indonesian creators' platform KaryaKarsa a finalist for WIPO Global Awards

IPA President to speak at NYU Advanced Publishing Institute
The NYU Advanced Publishing Institute (NYU API), run by the NYU SPS Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts (PALA), one of the IPA Academy's Content Developers, is a new executive education course designed for mid to senior-level publishing professionals interested in the latest strategies and business practices in book publishing. Read more.
Celebrations for 10 years since the Adoption of the Marrakesh Treaty
On July 12, 2023, WIPO member states and other stakeholders will come together to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled. Read more.

Accessibiliy - How many ebooks in Europe need an accessible life and how to make it happen?
Gautier Chomel: In the context of the European Accessibility Act publishers are producing more and more accessible ebooks. But many titles were produced before and are still on sale. Making backlists accessible can quickly become expensive and challenging when millions of ebooks are concerned. Read more.

IPA in the news

Publishing Perspectives, The Bookseller, Publishers Weekly, and PublishNews covered IPA Vice-President Gvantsa Jobava words of condolences for the passing of author Victoria Amelina, who received the 2023 Prix Voltaire on behalf of Volodymyr Vakulenko. They also addressed the IPA's announcement of dedicating the Prix Voltaire Special Award to Amelina's memory. Her passing and her relationship to the 2023 Prix Voltaire were also covered by LivresHebdo.

IPA President Karine Pansa's attendance and speech at the Seoul International Book Fair on June 15, 2023 were covered by Publishing Perspectives, The Korea Herald, and Chosun. 
 
Finally, Former IPA President Hugo Setzer gave the opening keynote speech at CONTEC Mexico, addressing sustainability, covered by Publishing Perspectives.
